Abstract

Campus culture is an important part of the advanced socialist culture. With the rapid development of higher education and the deepening reform of colleges and universities, our higher education has transited from elite education to mass education. The construction of excellent campus culture is not only the need of the promotion and development of national spirit, but also the requirement for the sustainable, healthy and rapid development of colleges and universities. Since entering the new era, the construction of campus culture not only has obtained striking achievements, but also faces many new situations, new problems and new challenges, especially the pragmaticality of campus culture has not been fully revealed. This requires us to analyze and study these issues and the causes, and propose appropriate countermeasures.Based on the spirit of“The Opinions on Further Strengthening the Construction of Campus Culture”issued by the Ministry of Education and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, and guided by the Marxist stand, viewpoint and method, this paper lays emphasis on combining theory with practice, and explores the route to improve the pragmaticality of campus culture construction by way of theoretical analysis, documentary study and comparative analysis, and provides some theoretical and practical references for further promoting the construction of campus culture.This thesis consists of four parts:The first part probes into the connotation of culture and campus culture, and analyzes the pragmaticality and evaluation criterion of campus culture. Campus culture is defined as a group culture of characteristics of the time, which takes campus as the field, teachers and students as the mainstay, extra-curricular activities as the main contents, a multi-disciplinary, multi-field interactive communication and the unique pace of life as the basic cultural patterns. At the same time, it is a multi-level and three-dimensional culture category covering material culture, spiritual culture, institutional culture and behavior culture and so on. As far as the campus culture is concerned, pragmaticality means the effect of the implementation of the national policies on the construction of campus culture in the new era. If the implementation of the national policies on the construction of campus culture has a positive promotion on the overall state of campus culture, it can be said that the construction of campus culture is of pragmaticality, otherwise it is of no pragmaticality.The second part points out the main problems existing in the construction of campus culture in the new era, and analyzes the causes of the problems. In practice, there are some problems of strong contrast between the intended purpose and arrangements, activities; and form and process being disharmonious with pragmaticality. Pragmaticality of campus culture construction is the result of comprehensive effects of various factors, including mainly internal factors and external factors.The third part proposes the countermeasures to improve the pragmaticality of campus culture construction according to the problems and the causes. We must take Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought and theoretical system of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics as a guide, adhere to the Scientific Outlook on Development, to proceed from reality, an accurate grasp of the basic principles of construction of campus culture, begin with the material culture, spiritual culture, institutional culture and behavior culture to create the campus material culture which keeps pace with the time, to construct a complete and feasible campus institutional culture, to inherit and build distinctive campus spiritual culture, and to create a fast and efficient campus behavior culture. The construction of campus culture needs to actively meet the requirements of teachers and students, respond to challenges of the times, innovate ideas and measures, and allow full play to the role of designer of the leaders, main force of the teaching and administrative staff, assure the principal position of students in the construction of campus culture, and standardize assessment of the pragmaticality of campus culture construction.The fourth part is the conclusion, which deeply reflects the insufficiency of studies on the construction of campus culture as well as elaborates the conclusive measures. Fundamentally, the pragmaticality of campus culture construction is a "soft mission", not a "tough target", which is not taken seriously in our mind. The construction of campus culture is a systematic project, which not only focuses on construction, but also on the pragmaticality of construction. In the process of promoting current campus culture construction, we must make clear the guiding ideology and basic principles of campus culture construction in the new era, fully grasp the system composition of campus culture construction, improve the approaches of organization and implementation of campus culture construction, and ensure the most desired results of every measure.
