Abstract

Humidity and bar arrangement have a great effect on the deformation and stressof structure. Only have a good understanding of their influence on shrinkage andcreep can the deformation of structure be accurately estimate. The study of creep isalways focused on one dimension member. The creep of two or three dimensionsmember is not the same as one dimension member so that the achievement got forone dimension member may not be appreciable for two or three dimensionsmembers. It is urgently needed to explore the characteristics of shrinkage and creepof shear wall. So this paper has a research on the influence of humidity and bararrangement on shrinkage and creep by theoretical and experimental study. Thecharacteristics of shrinkage and creep of shear wall is also experimental investigated. The paper includes three sections as follows:Firstly the effect of humidity on shrinkage and creep is studied. The treatmentof humidity in some famous prediction models is analyzed. An experiment is carriedout to study the development of shrinkage and creep under different humidityenvironment. The effect of humidity on shrinkage is stronger than that on creep. Thetest data show a best agreement with the ACI209R-92model when compared withthese prediction models.Secondly, the restraint effect of bar arrangement on creep and shrinkage isanalyzed. The formulas to calculate time-dependent deformation and stress of axialcompresses column and bending column are derived with the iterative method. Casestudy is done to discuss the time dependent creep and shrinkage of columns. Anexperiment is also done to study the restraint effect of bar arrangement and the testdata show a good agreement with the calculated values. As considering the effect ofstress loss, the iterative method shows a higher precision than the equivalent areamethod.Lastly, the characteristics of shrinkage and creep of shear wall is investigated. An experiment of shear wall is carried out to explore the deformation law of shearwall. The experimental data show that the shrinkage and creep of eternal wall islarger than that of internal wall. The dead-weight of shear almost has no effect onthe shrinkage of shear wall so that the horizontal and vertical shrinkage deformationis almost equal. But the dead-weight will increase the creep of shear wall. Thedeformation of the bottom of shear wall is bigger.
