With the rapid development of social and economic, the contradiction between thesupply and demand of water resources is becoming increasingly prominent. Agriculturalirrigation use more than70%of the total using water, but at the same time irrigationmanagement is not advanced and a lot of water is wasted. Irrigation water volumemeasurement is the way to strengthen irrigation management and strengthen the awareness ofwater conservation. More investments in technology research to develop new technologiesand equipments for water-saving, and innovative irrigation management system are two of theimportant measures to promote water saving irrigation.In this paper, we made a series of studies based on cutthroat flume. The main researchcontents are as follows.1. This paper introduced the structure of the cutthroat flume, the principle of hydraulics,flow calculation method, design and construction technology.2. Use advanced monitoring and communication equipments, software technology andcutthroat flume technology to work out an automatic flow measurement technology. Whensuch a system is developed, we use it in many irrigation area of Shandong Province andachieved some results.3. We made a experimental research in the field to study the flow rate measuringaccuracy of the cutthroat flume built in the wild.Through the above study, we draw the following conclusions:1. The slope of irrigation district main canal is very small but the flow is very large, aftera cutthroat flume constructed water level rises and flow conditions become bad. So it is notsuitable to construct a cutthroat flume in main canal. But, the slope of irrigation districtbucket and agriculture canal is steep and the flow is very small, after a cutthroat flumeconstructed water level rises a little and flow conditions is good. So it is suitable to constructa cutthroat flume in bucket and agriculture canal. 2. As can be seen from the flow comparison test study, in the field, the cutthroat flumeflow rate measuring accuracy is also high if the construction quality is very good.3. The intelligent flow telemetry system not only has sufficient measurement accuracy,but also overcomes many of the limitations of manual measurement such as waste of time,measurement accuracy is low, can not be real-time monitoring and continuous recording,statistics computational complexity etc.
