Jizhong plain is a district that suffers from severe water deficiency, with200m3waterresources for each person on average, which is only a tenth of the national average level.What’s more, saline water is widely distributed in the shallow underground of this area, anddue to its poor value of utilization, shallow water table, and strong evaporation, landsalinization is serious. In addition, because of fine particles of aquifers, poor waterconductivity and yield property, low productivity of borehole water in the saline shallowarea, the deep groundwater is mined for mainly agricultural irrigation in the vast rural areas.However, the deep groundwater exploitation in recent years has led to rapid decline of deepgroundwater levels, which has formed a groundwater depression cone and has triggered aseries of environmental geological problems. Therefore, it’s urgently needed to proposereasonable measures to improve soil and water environments.The previous studies show that in the salt water area, the combination of drainage andirrigation, reducing the water table, and making use of the underground space will increasethe amount of precipitation recharge and change the balance of water and salt transportation,leading to shallow groundwater conversion to the dilute direction. Meanwhile, it isbeneficial to improve the salt alkalized land. Thus, the full exploit of shallow groundwateris an important way to improve soil and water environments in the salt water district.Horizontal well technology is a drainage method specifically chosen for the study area,where saline shallow aquifers have fine particles and poor water conductivity and poorwater field property. This paper is based on the collection of previous data andhydrogeological investigations, with the environment hydrogeology and farmland waterhydrogeology theory as a guide, complied with the field test and laboratory test to get thegeotechnical parameters. It analyzed test data and reference typical soil moisturecharacteristic parameters in the authoritative professional journals, and build soil moisturecharacteristic parameter system of the demonstration district. Then it created a numericalmodel of water transport process in unsaturated-saturated zone with Hydrus1D, andexplored the characteristics of groundwater infiltration and evaporation under the conditionof typical meteorological environment in the demonstration district, based on the waterexchange capacity of vadose zone and the zone of saturation. It built an Modflow-Hydruscoupling model, analyzed the control range of the horizontal drain well under differenthydrological environment and different mining conditions in the demonstration district, and recommended (or cad to design) the main engineering parameters, such as density,layerand depth of horizontal well, as reference in design of horizontal well construction. What’smore, it simulated and analyzed the drainage effect of horizontal wells under the conditionsof different combination of irrigation and drainage engineering and different hydrologicalenvironments in the demonstration district. The results of the simulation analysis can helpto build the base for demonstration of shallow groundwater utilization and alkali-saline landimprovement and comprehensive experimental observations, which can provide theoreticalbasis for the promotion of relevant improvement methods with radiation results ofdemonstration and the guiding soil salinity area water and soil resources’ betterdevelopment.
