The research aimed at exploring the effect of altitude on yield and quality of Alliumsativum cv. Minlezipi. Via field observations at three agricultural demonstrationstations of1500m,1900m and2300m above sea level. And the influence of threedifferent altitudes on agricultural charaeters, and the chemical composition of garlicrevealed.The results are as follows:1. Altitude affect the agronomic traits of garlic including plant height, pseudostemdiameter and leaf area. It shows that the plant height a pseudostem diameter andleaf area were increasing with the increasing elevation.2. Garlic leaf total chlorophyll increased with increasing altitude. And it showedsignificant difference at seeding stage and bulb expansion period.The dailyaverage values of Pn,Tr,Ci and Gs decreased with increasing elevation, but thewater use efficiency(WUE) was increased significantly.3. Increasing elevation promoted garlic fresh and dry weight of bolt andbulb.Compara with the lower altitude,the young garlic shoot planed the higestfresh and dry weight have increased by49.9%,110.4%,the bulb increased by48.5%,50.8%. Compared with the lower altitude, soluble protein, vitaminC,total sugar and allicin contents in garlic bulb grown at the higher altitudeincreased significantly. Except the total sugar, other quality indicators showedpeak value at the highest altitude.Analysis of the results imply that Allium sativum cv. Minlezipi could adjustphotosynthesis and active substance contents to adapt varying condition alongaltitude gradient.
