Abstract

This study reveals the digestibility of hay grasses, relationship between digestibility and in vitro gas production, in order to develop a cheap and convenient alternate feed additive, for rumen degraded feed stuffs, to obtain balance animal rations for livestock and hay enterprises which will benefit from alfalfa and Chinese wildrye, that is less prone to contain mycotoxins or toxic weeds, or to induce bloat; have improved nutrient utilization for milk, meat production; and improve efficiency, profitability, for better environment. Value added traits of alfalfa and Chinese wildrye are needed to provide farmers new high value animal products. The present study was carried out, to examine the effect of different concentrations of Salinomycin in vitro on organic matter digestibility, pH, total gas production, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber and volatile fatty acids (VFA). Various concentrations0mg/L,50mg/L and100mg/L of salinomycin were added in two different grasses "alfalfa and Chinese wildrye". Evaluation of Salinomycin was carried out using in vitro gas production technique and individual fatty acids were estimated by gas chromatography. The results revealed that different levels of salinomycin decreased gas production and increased pH compared to control. In vitro organic matter digestibility showing decreasing trend with an increasing concentration of salinomycin with alfalfa and Chinese wildrye. Furthermore, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber contents were increased with higher dose of salinomycin (100mg/L). Moreover, total volatile fatty acids were not affected by addition of salinomycin, although propionic acid concentrations were increased as the level of salinomycin increased but butyric acid concentrations were significantly decreased by addition of salinomycin.
