With the increasing number of pet dogs in recent years, the dog diseases arouse more and more people’s concern. Among the diseases in dogs, veterinarians and pet owners pay more attention to pyometra, because it has higher incidence and harmfulness. Pyometra spreads extensively in our country, each province has a lot of case records. Besides, when the disease comes on, it can be cured by surgery only. If the treatment is not timely, it might cause pathological changes in other tissues and organs, which will bring huge harm to the pet owners.Pyometra is divided into opened pyometra and closed pyometra. Opened pyometra can flow pus from the vagina, which is easy to be found by clinical examination, but the clinical symptom of closed pyometra is not typical, which will be easy to be ignored by the pet owners. The illness is already serious when it is found; therefore, early diagnosis for this disease is very important.Recently, the diagnostic methods of pyometra include clinical diagnosis and laboratory diagnosis. Along with the application of advanced instruments in the pet clinic, B ultrasonic diagnosis and X-ray diagnosis are important means for pyometra. The treatment methods of pyometra include conservative treatment and surgical treatment. Conservative treatment probably can retain the fertility of dogs, but it is easy to relapse; surgical treatment is more thorough, but it will have a certain risk. This research is to explore the most effective and reasonable diagnosis and treatment methods for pyometra.20cases of canine pyometra were gathered from Beijing Jingxi Pet Hospital, Anhui Agricultural University Animal Hospital, Hefei Animal Healthy Centre and Chi Zhou Beilekang Pet Hospital. The clinical symptoms of20cases were full recorded. The symptoms of pyometra included depressed spirit, low appetite, fever, thirst, more drink, polyuria, vomiting and other symptoms.16cases were opened pyometra, which appeared suppuration and bleeding in vaginal orifice. Another4cases of closed pyometra showed enlarged abdominal girth and obvious systemic reaction. Compared with normal range, the total number of white blood cells and rod-shaped neutrophil count from the dogs with pyometra were significantly higher, Meanwhile, the blood biochemical examination in the dogs with pyometra showed that ALP had an obviously changes, others had a little change, which were due to the different severity of the diseases to lead to different damage of liver and kidney.Based on this, some advanced equipments were used to check abdomen of dogs, such as X-ray, B ultrasonic, etc.. The dogs with pyometra had different changes from pregnancy and healthy dogs. In these20cases,3cases took the conservative treatment,17cases took surgery to remove ovary and uterus. Through investigation, it was found that dogs, which had lighter illness or was hoped to preserve fertility, can take conservative treatment. Among the3conservative treatment cases,1case was finally removed the ovary and uterus by surgery because of not obvious treatment effect. All the17cases with surgical treatment recovered to normal, achieved the good treatment effect.Through the study, the diagnostic methods of clinical diagnosis, blood routine, blood biochemistry, B ultrasonic and X-ray for pyometra have important application value. In order to cure and prevent this disease, it is better to take surgery of ovary and uterus excision as soon as possible.
