Abstract

The rapid development of Computer technology has led the optimization design method to change dramatically, but as far as the design of railway vehicles is concerned, we are confined more to the reference of former related experience, with few modern analysis method applied. In the process of casting the bogie kingpin of a project, the speed of cooing for different part of kingpin varied greatly, which led to flaws or bubbles inside the kingpin. Therefore, this paper managed to redesign the kingpin on the condition that the kingpin could function well, so as to synchronize the speed of crystal. At first, this article illuminates the mathematical model and the principle of topological optimization, manifests the feasibility to optimize kingpin in this method. This paper applied CAD, CAE and the topology optimization method to solve this problem. Firstly, Pro/Engineer is applied to construct the model of kingpin, which is imported in to Ansys to complete the finite element model. Kinds of working status are considered to analyze the distribution of stress, and low frequencies the influence the dynamic behavior of kingpin are extracted. The analysis result indicated that the kingpin has the allowance to cut material with the respect to the strength and frequency of kingpin. In order to minimize the impact of cutting material to the strength of kingpin, and improve the intensive distribution of stress, the topological optimization is applied to figure out the best position and proper quantity for removal. According to the result of topological optimization, the kingpin is redesigned with respect to practicality and feasibility.Static analysis and dynamic analysis are executed to check the traits of optimized kingpin. The result shows that the new design could meet the requirements of static and dynamic working status. From the analysis, we could see that the new design could not only solve the trouble in the process of production, but also could reduce the weight and thickness by 10%, which could indirectly reduce the consume of energy for railway vehicles.
