Abstract


Dewey as a master of pragmatism, his thoughts are profound, especially when it comes to aesthetic and artistic features, however many scholars are focused on the explanation of Dewey’s philosophy ideas instead of these ideas’ inseparable connection with his aesthetic and artistic features.This article is focused on these aspects regarding the discuss of aesthetic experiences and artistic features by Dewey:First, based on his natural empiricism philosophy and linking the produce of aesthetic experiences and human’s living environment, he thinks that aesthetic experiences can not only satisfied human desires and requires, it can also promote human creativity and coordinate between human and nature and social environment in order to adapt. Second, aesthetic experiences contains imagination and anticipation, also the generation of aesthetic experiences never left the practice in reality so that aesthetic experiences was added with some special functions to make people break the ossified and bounded society through aesthetic practices thereby functioning in liberating and developing social and cultural life. Third, Dewey expand his view into the form of living activity, joining form with relation and signification to make sure the rhythm and order that appears in the living activity is the key factor that was highlighted by the interaction between the chaos of life and aesthetic experiences which was produced by aesthetic activity.Dewey also has new elucidate about artistic features:he has demonstrated the generation of art is not occasionally but realization of the inevitable existential needs of human and society through characteristics of human living environment, so art has to satisfy these kind of needs through aesthetic practices for that only with the happening of participated activities that art can provide and mortified the experiences of whole society. Even more, art is certained with openness because of it’s imaginative and individuality, it will criticize and mortify backward aspects in society to emerge the function of moral education and social criticism. Dewey also find popular arts and public arts are indispensable when he trace the origin of art and affirmed their universality and innovative in social exception due to it’s exceptional production conditions. Dewey’s discuss about aesthetic and artistic features is highly enlightened in our daily aesthetic and cultural education and art creation and artistic theory, he demanded us to treat with his ideas with a inclusively heart and a practical spirit so that art can have it’s true function effected in our daily social and cultural life.
