Abstract


Military politics is an important phenomenon in the development process of the political modernization of Syria. During the process, military junta struggled with civilian politicians back and forth and finally defeated its opponents, interrupting development road of the fragile parliamentary democracy and twisting the direction of the political development. An army-party regime was set up after the Ba’th coming into power.This paper contains three major components and does a detailed analysis on the developing process, reasons, characteristics and influence of the military politics through a variety of methods. By the analysis of the domestic and international situation Syria faced with, point out that the root cause of the military politics belonging to the complex political, economic and social contradictions of the schizophrenic Syrian society. Besides, both great powers and regional powers in Middle East tried to draw Syrian army over to their own side in order to struggle for hegemony of the world and region. This fact constituted external reason of the military politics. The drastic clique conflictions resulted in frequent coups. Based on their needs, the army and parties reached a coalition. After a series of realignment and regrouping, the Ba’th and army set up an army-party Domination Mode in the end. The Assad regime was considered to be one army-party regime with strong military color. The policy orientation concentrated in growth and Characteristics of government of Authoritarianism depending on violence determine the dual influences to the development of Syrian society, political and economic.Military politics is the product of Syrian underdeveloped politics, existing as a transitional type. In terms of developmental level of the Syrian politics and economic, the army still is an important influence to the political situation.
