Abstract


School-based curriculum development is a very important part of the curriculum reform of basic education, and has been attached great importance by educational administrative departments and schools at all levels. However, the quality of school-based curriculum development in different schools is not the same. Very few schools haven’t set out their development. Taking H Middle Schools, a rural middle school, as an example, this thesis will discuss why there is no school-based curriculum development in it, in the hope of providing some ways to deal with the situation.Compared with the attitudes towards school-based curriculum development, the disparity between Education Bureau of Wujiang District and H Middle School is striking. After fixing the theme of this study, this thesis sorts out and classifies the relevant existing references, thus providing a knowledge basis for research. By means of questionnaires, interviews and documentary presentation, this thesis takes H Middle Schools as an example and researches the present situation of school-based curriculum development there. This study analyzes the causes of the present situation, including the loss of excellent students, the quality of the teachers, the parents’ and students’ aspiration to high marks and the regulation and supervision from Education Bureau. According to the actual conditions in H Middle School, some countermeasures are offered. The principal’s thoughts should be changed and his curriculum leadership should be improved. Rules and regulations need establishing and the training of teachers needs strengthening. In addition, teachers ought to develop curriculum resources and Education Bureau must provide Assistance and supervision.
