Abstract

This thesis takes the63yellow cards and4red cards given in the32matches of the6thFIFA Women’s World Cup as a research object, in the hope of revealing the general patternapplied in penalty cards during Women’s World Cup. Furthermore, it aims to statisticallysupport training for football teams, coaches, referees, as well as research on match theories.Combined the object data with the methods of literature consultation, investigation andobservation, the pattern is concluded as follows:1.63yellow cards and4red cards are given in the Women’s World Cup. Averaged1.97yellow cards, it hits the minimal record for giving yellow cards in the history of Woman’sWorld Cup.2. In the Woman’s World Cup, the last15minutes render the most yellow cards, whichdiffers from previous games. On average, three periods in the first half-time all generate lessyellow cards than that in the second half. For every match, the first yellow card is alwaysgiven around the same time period, and in most cases, in the first75minutes. All the red cards,however, occur in the second half.3. Penalty occurs all around the pitch. Among which midfield renders the most yellowcards, and the middle generates more than the flank. As for the red cards, all of them are givenaround the penalty area in the middle during the second half-time. Among all the players,center half get the most yellow cards, while all the red cards go to center half back, defenderor goalkeeper.4. Most yellow cards are due to fouls including unsporting behaviors and disagreementexpressed orally or physically. In the unsporting behaviors, violent conducts get the mostyellow cards.5. On average, knockout matches usually generate more yellow cards than group games.The analysis for the data brings forward the following advises:1. In daily training, woman players shall further study football rules and theories, andlearn to control themselves better, so as to try their best to avoid yellow and red cards.2. Woman players shall be more competitive in ferocious tackle in the condition of high strength. They shall also improve tactical ability and professional ethics, and minimize theinstant and deferred affect of yellow and red cards.3. Coaches shall improve their resilience. So that when the penalty occurs, they canminimize the affect of yellow and red cards by promptly adjusting player positions andstatistics.4. Referees shall fully comprehend regulation articles concerning yellow and red cards.They shall thoroughly understand characteristics of yellow and red card, gain more experiencein distinguishing fouls and improve their ability to foresee fouls.
