With the rapid development of information appliances industry, smart appliancesgradually take the place of traditional white goods. In future, smart appliances will furtherintegrate with embedded products, and will use graphical operating system. At the sametime, android showed its potential of being an embedded OS. Android not only offered afriendly graphical interface, but also provided a customizable Linux kernel for hardware.Android system features meet the requirement of smart home, so the research of smarthome system based on android platform has great application value.The goals achieved by this thesis are as follows:1) designed a smart home systemmodel. The model connected indoor appliances to a communication network, and usedhome gateways as well as GSM network to provide remote interface.2) Implemented anandroid control program which form wireless interaction with smart home. The controlprogram integrated a variety of communication methods, including WiFi, Bluetooth andSMS. With the control program, users can access to smart home and control appliances.3)Implemented an additional SMS identification method. In this research, the SMS sent byandroid control program had different message head with those sent by normal phones, sosmart home system could distinguish the control messages with ordinary SMS.We tested the interaction between the android control system and smart home usingWiFi, Bluetooth and SMS. The results showed that android control system was able tointeract with smart home by the above three wireless communication methods. Therealization of the system could satisfy our requirements.
