Abstract


As two well-known historical figures in the time of modern China, Chen Duxiu and Hu Shi arenot only famous in literature, philosophy, politics and etc., but also the earliest newspapermen.During their early time of running newspapers, they were both deeply influenced by liberal newsconcept. With certain similarities in their liberal news concept, their inconvenient differenceslead to the final departure in the way of newspaper operation. This thesis tries to prove thehypothesis, namely, the difference of news concept is not merely because of their differentpolitical choice, but because of the liberal influences of news concept of the two is different.The thesis discusses the similarities and differences between the two and tries to analyses thecauses. Similarities are demonstrated mainly from four aspects, the freedom of speech concept,mass editorial thoughts, enlightenment oriental instrumental literal news concept andindependent operation principle. Differences are discussed from political divergence and themild and radical news concept. As for the causes, the thesis brings out social and historicalbackground, cultural environment and etc. The author tries to reveal the creative reconstructionof intellectuals towards western theories in that special period of time by analyzing features ofChen Duxiui and Hu Shi’s liberal news concept.
