Abstract


More and more people who always pursue material enjoyment are paying attention to thespiritual and cultural needs since the continuous development and the increasing levels ofsubstance. For these needs, a variety of movies and television series are unprecedentedflourishing and showing on the screen. As one of the most popular types, time-travel moviesand TV series are becoming to the center of contentions these days. Thus, the most importantkey of achieving healthy and Long-term development of this genre is how to promote theMaximum space of development for this type of movies and TV series.In terms of time, before, about20years ago, arising in China, this type of movies and TVseries in the U.S. had been experienced for a very long time. However only in recent yearsChinese film and television industry have been affected by the American time-travel moviesand TV series. The most fascinating aspect of time-travel movies and TV series, whether theyare from China or the U.S., is the content of the story which involves some plots taking placein different times and spaces. As a relatively young type, In spite of the broad attention andeffects, time-travel movies and TV series are going through a process of discovery andexploring including screenwriters, directors, audiences and the whole management of thebroadcast and television system. Therefore, the systematized and Theoretical research oftime-travel movies and TV series are urgently required.Assessments of time-travel movies and TV series, as a type, should not only rely onwhether it is exciting for the audiences but should bring them more benefits of thinking andperception after their watching shows. In addition to a theoretical support, the research in thisfield also needs, more importantly, the combination of theory and practice. In order to be ableto promote the conduct of research and the healthy development of time-travel movies and TVseries, in this thesis, we started form US-China time-travel movies and television series usinga variety of methods such as literature reading, content analyzing and comparative study to doa brief analysis of the development background and status and the reason of hot showing ofUS-China time-travel movies and television series before doing an in-depth research mainlybased on narrative theories of4aspects of narrative content，narrative features，narrativerepresentation and narrative thinking. In order to fill the gaps of the research on differences oftime-travel movies and television series between China and the U.S., the results of the thesishave been demonstrate with the combination of examples by three aspects, which has beenabsorbing successful experience from the US time-travel movies and television series to makeup ours. Ultimately, it will make a contribution to promote a healthy development of Chinesetime-travel movies and television series.
