Abstract


The management of plastic containers need in core enterprises within manufacturingindustry is a difficult problem. Serious container loss and supply chain inefficiencies notonly increase company’s materials transportation cost but also affect the dailyproduction plans.Based on theoretical study and application research, this paper points out that thesupplier based container management model is first to be blamed. In this model, coreenterprises cannot take control of suppliers’ container types and stacking modes, whichmakes it difficult to manage. The operational efficiency of the entire supply chain maybe serious affected since core enterprises, as the vital nodes, do not run smoothly.A core enterprise based container management model is proposed in this paper. Inthis model, supplier containers procurement, operations and supplemental are under themanagement and scheduling system of core enterprises. Detailed analysis is performedon information flow, material flow and organization structures of the proposed model.Supplier container species are unified for better delivery and recovery management tocontrol the container loss and improve efficiency. On the other hand, core enterprisecontainer management solutions using RFID are proposed for automation and precision.At the end of this article, the proposed core enterprise based container managementmodel has been applied in PHL Company for almost a year. The results show that thecontainer loss has been reduced and the operation efficiency has been improvedsignificantly. The applicability and effectiveness of this model has been demonstrated inthe case study.In this study, the container management has been improved. Core enterprise basedmanagement improves the ability to take initiative in supply chain, meanwhile a feasiblenew idea is proposed to solve the container management problems for enterprises.
