With economic globalization and the gradual deepening of financial reform, the spread income formed by traditional deposit and loan business used as main source of profits of commercial banks has been compressing. While on the other hand, electronic banking business basing on the new IT has been recognized by more and more users gradually by taking advantage of its fast, convenient and various features. The rate of counter replacement is increasing rapidly year by year, which provides more and more operating profit for commercial banks It’s obvious that Electronic banking performance contributes a lot for commercial banks. But there are still some constraints, to carry out the development of electronic banking at this stage. Its high requests for technical environment and initial investment, besides difficulties in integration of traditional business and various degrees of customers’ acceptance for it make the advantages of electronic banking can not yet be fully apparent. How big the contribution of Electronic banking to commercial banks becomes one of the greatest concern currently and is what this issue want to research. It’s necessary for both comercial banks and marketing regulators to analyze this performance change resulting from business restructuring in facing with increasingly open and competitive business environment. Only have a good and comprehensive understanding of its business conditions, can they find an effective way to improve business performance and maximize corporate value. In this context, It’s necessary to analyze the impact of electronic banking to commercial banks.Firstly, DEA model is chosen as research method. Research methods in the brief description found abroad, DEA model is verified to be one of the most studied performance data of scientific and effective tools, and DEA model is applied to the performance of commercial banks with a lot of ideal empirical results.Secondly, considering the sample representative and data availability, this article will choose a sample including four state-owned commercial banks, that is Bank of China, ICBC, China Construction Bank and China Bank of Communications, five joint-stock commercial Banks, that is Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, China Minsheng Bank, China Merchants Bank, Industrial Bank, Ping An Bank, and a city commercial banks, which is Beijing Bank. The period of Sample is from2008to2011, data sources are from China Financial Statistics Yearbook, China Banking Regulatory Commission website and the relevant annual commercial banks. With help of the Wind database, performance evaluation model consisting of indicator system is constructed including credit cards issued, bank card fees, retail outlets, total assets and total pre-tax profit. Credit cards issued, bank card fees, retail outlets, total assets are the model input variables, the total profit is output variable of the model. In this paper, DEA model empirical analysis of these indicators calculate out each commercial banks performance factor, the value of each index improved results. Conclusions can be put as followed:Firstly, the evaluation of performance of domestic commercial banks is relatively low in2008, but shows an upward trend between2008-2011in the overall. Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, Investment Bank and Bank of China have been performing as a deterministic DEA efficient commercial banks from2009-2011,which means they are operating relatively healthy. Minsheng Bank and Bank of China, has gone from relatively ineffective to effective, indicating that the improvement in investment indicators of these two commercial banks timely and effective. The others perform a non-deterministic DEA efficient and still has not yet entered into effective stage, despite increasingly effective management with continuous improvementSecondly, from the view of scale validity of the remaining non-deterministic DEA efficient commercial banks, the China Industrial and Commercial Bank and China Bank of Communications has been performing as a stage in decreasing returns to scale, which perform an obvious difference between state-owned commercial banks and joint-stock banks。From the output perspective, the state-owned commercial banks should achieve better performance with the existing scale. However the result is that, although the major state-owned commercial banks issue a large number of credit cards and introduce electronic banking services, but cards perform inactively and have not produced significant benefits. The magnitude of electronic banking replacement rate is not high considering substantial improvement. Assets and personnel utilization is low in state-owned commercial banks, which results in the statistical results of redundant personnel and excess resources. The fundamental thing is to improve the efficiency of resource using. It’s easier to implement electronic banking investment and high output as long as existing resources are fully used.Based on the above analysis, we propose that a commercial bank should avoid blind expansion in card volume, instead of improving electronic banking security and the proportion of high value-added aspects of derivative operations, thus improving banking performance.Innovation of this paper lies in its simple by using the latest data and the most efficient DEA model’s applyment for the performance of e-banking. The impact of China’s electronic banking to its performance will be given from qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, thus proposing strategies for improvement. Consider that e-banking is rely on bank entities, such as bank card businesses. Therefore, the amount of credit cards can be used as electronic banking inputs, the number of commercial bank branches can be used as the replacement rate of electronic banking indicators, thus reflect the current development of electronic banking, by using final empirical analysis indirectly. The shortage of this article is that indicators are limited.Firstly, data sources are restricted. Limited to electronic banking is developing rapidly emerging business, commercial banks begin to disclose relevant business data in different years, the index has no certain standard. Secondly, the model is limited.10commercial banks ultimately selected directly determines the input and output variables can not be more than five in order to ensure the validity of DEA model results.
