Abstract

The“Shi-tong”is an important historical works of ancient China, which is China’s first work of thousand years since the Qin Dynasty. In that book , it includes historic job, historic books, theoretical work of a critical summary of the history understanding .It becomes the first Department of Historiography monograph in the world.The Han Dynasty is a very important period in ancient China, for the historiography developed rapidly during the period, the historians of historiography further enhanced the awareness, so Liu Zhiji done a lot of work about historic historians, historical works and the activities of revision of history in the Han Dynasty.For this reason, when“Shi-tong”come out which attracted the attention of many scholars. They studied the“Shi-tong”from various perspectives.But review all points of view, most still remains in the Liu Zhiji and the“Shi-tong”on one aspect of the case study, while for a dynasty no one study it ,especially the Han Dynasty history summary. And whether the“Shi-tong”or the History of the Han Dynasty, it would be studied deeply.In this paper, we will analysis from the three aspects of Liu Zhiji’s Historys research ,and study the overall theoretical framework the“Shi-tong”. and Liu Zhiji ’s ideas on history, historical compilation method, historical criticism theory and the developments of the Han Dynasty historic theory1、Liu Zhiji talk about Han Dynasty historians literacy.Historian’s consciousness about the problems that historians of literacy is an important part of the Liu Zhiji’s historic theory,which is also the essence of historic theory . Although in the“Shi-tong”,Liu Zhiji did not point out directly the“three kinds ability of historical”theory, but in the Han Dynasty historian’s comments infiltrate the“talent, learned, knowledge”of the“three kinds ability of historical”theory. Liu Zhiji’s view about historian’s literacy in the Han Dynasty was all-round comprehensive that reflect his excellent knowledge and experience. However, Liu Zhiji eventually could not escape the limitations of the feudal, which reflects its one-sidedness. 2、Liu Zhiji talk about compiled historical book of the Han DynastyLiu Zhiji viewed through ancient historical records. In a more objective basis, he commented for the classification of historical records of the Han period, genre, style, compilation, and other aspects of the social function.He compared some works especially from compilation methods about "Historical Records" of Si Maqian’s biographical History and the Han Dynasty of Ban Gu’s Scattered History.Liu Zhiji’s comment was entire and direct on historical books of the Han Dynasty ,which fully reflects his innovations theories in the compilation of historical records. At the same time,it also reflects his historic knowledge beyond the previous.Through Liu Zhi’ summary about the Han Dynasty historical records, we can’t glimpse of the whole historical records compiled during the Han Dynasty and system of Liu Zhiji‘s critical historical theory. but it is helpful for us to study the Han Dynasty history and to enlarge Liu Zhiji’s critical historical theory. It reflects the narrow thinking and limitations which can not cover up the progress of Liu Zhiji dialectical thinking.3、Liu Zhiji talk about historical thoughts of the Han DynastyLiu Zhiji reviewed and summarized the Han Dynasty historians, from which summed up a lot of valuable views, such as rebuttal and criticism about“Heaven and Man”, inheritance and development the opinion of development history ,the comments on the orthodox view of history books and discussed about historians’ world views. These reviews are objective, informative, from which we can recognize Liu Zhiji’s advanced thought of historical opinions. Although he was limited by the impact of confucian orthodoxy , over all most of his opinions is objective and fair .
