Abstract


During the Cold War , U.S. policy in Latin America to resist communist forces in Cuba penetration and to prevent emergence of a second core objective . In the late 1970s , the Sandinista National Liberation Front led the revolution in Nicaragua to the United States this policy challenges. In order to stabilize the situation in Nicaragua , to prevent left-wing revolutionary forces to seize political power and thus make the revolutionary movement spread to neighboring countries , causing unrest in the Central American region , the Carter administration adopted a series of measures to deal with the crisis in Nicaragua to protect U.S. and in Nicaragua in Central America countries interests , excluding the Soviet Union might intervene ancient forces . However, the situation in Nicaragua has developed in its own way , so that the Carter administration 's efforts in vain. In this paper, the geopolitical theories and principles of national interest as the main theoretical basis , combing through the system during the Carter administration on the Nicaraguan revolution, the National Archives and literature , taking into existing research , trying to fully elaborate on the Nicaraguan revolution, the Carter administration 's policy considerations and implementation process , revealing the United States in the region's strategic considerations and interests to pursue . This paper consists of four parts : Part I: analysis of the impact of the formation of the Nicaraguan revolution, the Carter administration 's policy of historical factors and background . Relates to the historical relationship between the United States and Nicaragua ; Soviet hegemony in Latin America with the Cuban Revolution on the impact of policies ; Somoza dictatorship and the relationship between the United States Government . Part II: use of relevant documents and archives, a comprehensive exposition of the outbreak of the revolution in Nicaragua led to internal and external factors as well as the Carter administration 's policy choices . Including : Nicaraguan revolution broke out in the background and processes ; Nicaraguan revolution, the Carter administration 's policy response to consider the implementation process and its results. Part III : The Carter administration Nicaraguan revolutionary policy evaluation, analysis resulting in revolutionary Nicaragua Carter administration policy failure for many reasons . Part IV: the victory of the revolution in Nicaragua elaborated on the impact of the regional situation , as well as to Latin America policy adjustments .
