Abstract

Wind power is a kind of intermittent energy resource. The power output of wind farm has strong randomness and fluctuation. As more large-scale wind farms integrate power system, there will be more significant impact on the power system operating. Therefore, this area of research becomes increasingly important. How to maximize the wind power penetration limit, to ensure stable and reliable operation of network security, promote the coordinated development of wind power and power Grid is currently an urgent need to study.the paper use the multi-state theory to evaluate the reliability of power system with high wind power. The impacts of the installation of large-scale wind power on system reliability and spinning reserved capacity are analysed. To calculate the maximum wind power penetration and spinning reserved capacity base on a specific reliability standard. The major research and contributions are as follows:Firstly, the multi-state theory is proposed to study the reliability of power system with wind power base on the property of power system with wind power and multi-state theory. A universal generating function (UGF) is used to analyze reliability of a multi-state system.Secondly, the power output of intermittent energy resource is analyzed base on the property of wind energy and wind energy resource. Using multi-state probability model of the power output of wind power to represent the fluctuation and intermittence of wind speed.Thirdly, a multi-state wind farm model and a multi-state load model are combined using universal generating function (UGF) to simulate the fluctuation of wind speed, reliability of wind turbine generators and uncertainty of load. Finally, analyze the change of system reliability indices after integration of wind power base on multi-state UGF model by IEEE-RBTS test system. To calculate the maximum wind power penetration and spinning reserved capacity base on a specific reliability standard. The results show that the maximum wind power penetration is influenced by many factors. The impacts of the installation of large-scale wind power on system reliability is significant, and extra spinning reserved capacity will be needed to maintain power system’s reliability. The size of the system reserve on the reliability of the system has significant effects.
