Abstract

Most of the countries that have Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) are carrying out extensive research on fault diagnosis system (FDS) and obtained some productions in order to reduce the burden of work of operators in abnormal operational condition and improve the safety of NPP. However, due to complexity of equipments and systems, nuclear safety criteria, fault diagnosis system has not been widely and effectively used in NPP.In this thesis, the importance of fault simulation in the development of fault diagnosis system is discussed. The problems encountered in fault diagnosis system R&D process are summarized.Simulation technology plays an important role in providing fault data not only for fault analysis, fault symptom extraction, but also for diagnosis method validation and verification. Currently, most of the fault simulation is based on full-scale reactor simulator. It’s difficult to research fault diagnosis technology by full-scale reactor simulator because it is too expensive and needs high maintenance cost. For solving this problem, in this thesis, we select RELAP5, the best estimation code, as fault data source, and LabVIEW, the virtual instrument software, as a data generator, to develop fault simulation data platform. The simulation platform can not only convert the RELAP5’s static data into dynamic data, but also simulate the real situation of system parameters by adding noise during data processing. In this study, power reduced, loss of coolant accident and the steam generator U-tube rupture accident simulated by RELAP5 are selected as the study cases in order for validating the performance of the proposed platform. The simulation results show that the trend of each accident is reasonable which indicates the proposed system by RELAP5 can simulate the accidents correctly.
