Abstract

This paper studied the attraction effect of fipronil, hexaflumuron, sulfluramid and triflumuron. The wood and the reagent which the termites prefered most were selected, Home-made "An-Shui"trapping system was used to control Odontotermes fontanellus Kemner in two dams in Chaohu,Anhui. Through the test on dams, relations between indicative fungi on dead termite-nests and termites had been clear.1. Several new reagents that often used nowdays were tested in the fields in Simashan and Xinqiaozha. It shows that none of the bait reagents used has antifeeding or repellent effects to Odontotermes fontanellus Kemner. They are all attractive to Odontotermes fontanellus Kemner.2. Traditional trapping methods were used in the field test, such as trpping boxes, tipping heaps.Comparing with other controlling methods, they are more efficient, and they do little harm to the environment. All termites in one nest would be dead without finding the nest they live in. The results of termites contol are perfect in all field test.3. Several ways of bait reagents spreading were tried to increase the chance termites meet and eat the baits, and they had good feeding effect as a result.Bait reagents were spreaded in swarming holes, or spreaded in front of the mudline,mudcover that termites made. In 2008, distributions of swaming holes were investigated in Simashan area. Baits reagents were spreaded in swaming holes, and most of them were eaten by termites, 103 baits were spreaded, and 82.5 of them were eaten.4. In autumn 2007, 12 places were selected depending on the indicative fungi. Through nests anatomy, dead nests were found in 10 places. In all the nests examined, 9 of them are main nests, 31 of them are side nests.3 termites palaces were found in nest anatomy. The result reflects the good controlling effects of the bait reagents spreaded.In the field test in Simashan and Xinqiaozha, it was found indicative fungi on dead termite-nests appeared on the ground in early July. Some fungi could’nt grow out of the ground, they live on the nest of termites. It’s found dead termite-nests placed right under the indicative fungi. Thus, indicative fungi can be used to locate the termite-nest. Xylaria sanchejii Lloyd has the greatest indication effect in the compared with X. furcata Fr and X. nigriper (KL) Sace.Through the investigation, the indicative fungi on gound have some connection with the nests under the groud. Indicative fungi often be found when the nest is dead. Where Xylaria sanchejii Lloyd are dense, there may be great nests right under the ground.Further test is needed to prove that result. If the result was proved to be true, then termites control on dams could be more pertinence.5. Wood selecting test was carried out in Simashan area in order to make sure the wood Odontotermes fontanellus Kemner likes most. The result shows Odontotermes fontanellus Kemner likes to select poplar wood to eat, and pine wood the second.6. "Anshui" monitorin trapping method was also carried out in two dams. It shows "Anshui"monitoring trapping method is of great efficiency among all the methods tested, this method could be a mainly controlling way on dams, it could controls the harm of termites in dams, while it can also prevents the harms that termites may make.
