Periodic maintenance of railway electrical equipment is adopted for long-time. The maintenance has defect in science, timeliness and plan. The maintenance has partial blindness. Frequency of power cut is high. Period of test is long. Test of insulation for electrical equipment in service cannot carry out. The hidden fault cannot be found immediately. When the test of insulation loss and reveal is carried out, the input voltage is low than the working voltage, some fault cannot reflect obviously. So the on-line insulation monitoring for the equipment in traction substation is necessary.The research subject is on-line insulation monitoring for main transformer, potential transformer, current transformer and arrester. Process, store and transfers multifarious insulation parameter of every equipment, give an alarm when the parameter is overrun. For this reason, design part hardware of the system, develop current sensor with high sampling precision and anti-jamming, local bus. Local monitoring unit is fixed to link with software of the system, achieve equipment monitoring data collection and long distance transmission by local area network.The paper introduce overhaul status of the electrical equipment in traction substation, analyses characteristic and deficiency of periodic maintenance, introduce present development and advance of the on-line monitoring of the equipment in traction substation, introduce and compare with several testing.The paper present system frame of collectivity design and the hardware in the on-line monitoring system, including current sensor, local monitor, protect screen earthing and power supply, whereafter, introduce numeration of signal disposal. At last, the paper introduce use of the on-line monitoring system and example.
