Abstract

Rigid Inertia parameters are indispensable to the dynamic analysis, optimum control, and evaluation and determination product structure of mechanical systems. The engine inertia parameters are defined by the mass quality, the center of gravity, the principle inertia of moments and their associated principle axes. The accurate measurement of the engine inertia parameters is one of the prerequisite for the mounting system optimization. Thus, it is of great significance to find a simple and accurate inertia parameters identification method. On the basis of frequency response functions derived from vibration test in a free free state, we present an engine inertia parameters identification method, which allowing for simultaneous estimation of the ten inertia parameters without acquirement of previous knowledge of any parameters. The test rigid body is suspended in free free state, and the measurement points and applied forces are selected properly on the test body, then, calculate the frequency response functions on each measurement point. The massline values estimated from the frequency response function are used to estimate the ten inertia parameters of the body. The inertia parameters identification of the regular rigid frame and the standard block (with similar mass and the centroid position to the engine’s) verifies the accuracy and efficiency of the method; the irregular rigid body the engine block test identification shows good consistency of the identified results, which further verifies the efficiency of the method; the sources of the error are studied qualitatively. The engine inertia parameters are identified by the presented method, and the identified results are closed to the results from the pendulum method. It can be concluded that the proposed method is reliable for the engineering application. The presented method is simple and does not require special equipment, which can be applied to any structure that behaves like a rigid body.
