Abstract


Since the late 1970s, the discussion about the relationship between emotion and cognition and their interaction has been the new main issue in the field of cognition psychology. In the same time, the priming effect has been the primary paradigm all along. Then, the study of affective priming effects has commenced in the early 1980s. The aim of affective priming effects research is investigate the influence of emotion on cognition, and that of unconscious affective priming effects is investigate the influence of unconscious emotion on cognition. After consulting most of the literatures present, we find out that the "Stimulus onset asynchrony" (namely SOA) is a key factor in the research of unconscious affective priming effects if we hope that priming effects do its’ works. But up to now, those researchers in this field disputed for a long time about the optimal value of SOA. We also find that few studies aim at the difference of various ages (different groups) on priming effects. The present research aims at the optimal value of SOA and the differences of adolescent on unconscious affective priming effects. The present research used countenance pictures as primes and two-word emotional Chinese words as targets to investigate the unconscious affective priming effects in the evaluative categorization task. All stimulus are been presented under the control of E-prime.The main findings are as follows:(1) There is a significant unconscious affective priming effect while the primes and targets are from different materials.(2) In the process of unconscious affective priming effects, the primes influence the response selection of targets without influencing the encoding of targets.(3) The optimal value of SOA is 150ms. The intensity of priming decreased gradually with the increased of SOA.(4) The intensity of unconscious affective priming effects decreased with participants’age if that target is preceded by a prime stimulus with the same valence, but it increased with participants’age if that target is preceded by a prime stimulus with a difference valence.(5) The development of reaction time, without reference to the same or not valence of prime and target, likes approximately the shape of "Z" with participants’age. On the absolute reaction time, the participant in the fifth grade of elementary school near the second grade of junior high school, and the second grade of senior high school near the first grade of college.
