Abstract


Influenced by the reform and opening up policy 30 years ago, many dramatic changes have taken place in China’s retail trade. In recent years, it has become one of the most rapidly developing and prospecting lines of business in China. At present, retail trade is closely related to different fields of production and consumption in China. Accordingly, there is increasing demand for both quality and quantity in retail trade. In the 12th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development, retail trade has gained the extensive support as a kind of focal service industry. All these provide favorable conditions for integrating domestic retail trade into international retail market.With the rapid development of China’s economy, the level of urbanization is greatly improving and a number of new residential areas are continuously emerging. Modern residential areas require corresponding service systems, such as medical care, education, culture, sports and commerce services etc., among which the most fundamental and most important is the modern retail business that can satisfy residents’ basic necessities of life like food, clothing, entertainment, etc.. as well as their spiritual needs. Compared with the emergence of new residential area, retail trade in these places is developing at a relatively slow speed, which is hard to meet the residents’ daily needs and may affect the overall development of retail trade in China. Therefore, from the perspective of strategy, the research on the development mode of retail trade in new urban residential area plays a significant role in the overall development of retail trade in new urban residential area of China.Based on the current situations of retail trade in new urban residential area of China, by employing both qualitative and quantitative analysis methods, this dissertation firstly analyses the potential problems of the retail trade. Then it discusses the development mode of retail trade in new urban residential area of China, which promotes the rapid, steady and healthy development of retail trade in new urban residential area. Finally, it proposes some strategies suitable for the development situation in China so that retail trade in the new residential area can be more competitive in the international market.
