Abstract

With the development of economic and the improvement of requirements of function and comfort for structures, the space structure with large span, especially the reticulated dome, is widely used as landmark everywhere. Meanwhile, the impact increases, and also it has the characteristic of short duration, strong destructive effect. The study of such structures under impact load has become a hot issue now because of its important political and economic significance. The dynamic responses and failure modes of such structures under impact load are more concerned especially after "9.11".The Hamilton variation principle, the derivation of the basic equation of dynamics of structures as well as the central difference method for non-linear problem are firstly introduced in this paper. And also the central difference method is an efficient solution of the popular finite element software ANSYS/LS-DYNA which is used in impact problem both at home and aboard. After the element types, material models, and the contact type for the ANSYS/LS-DYNA in impact problem are elaborated, a modeling method for single-layer reticulated domes under impact loads is given in this paper. The analytic solutions of two typical examples are compared to verify this method. Then a single-layer Kiewitt reticulated dome with a span of 60 meters under impact load is solved by ANSYS/LS-DYNA. It gives 4 failure modes for single-layer reticulated domes under impact loads, through the study of the whole process of deformation and the development of damage. At the same time the vertical displacements of joints, the impact force and stress in main members in each failure mode are researched and compared with each other. On the basis of the failure modes, the responses of single-layer reticulated domes under impact loads are parametric studied to research the impact of these parameters on failure modes by changing the mass of impactor, the velocity of impactor, location of impact, angle of impact, roof loads, ratio of high and span and initial geometrical imperfection. With the failure mode of the distribution of each parameter, the adverse situation of global collapse of single-layer reticulated domes is studied in this paper.
