The government has all along regarded the agriculture and grain as the most important work in China, which is a great country of production and consumption of grain. It is necessary to pay attention to the development of grain logistics, the reduction of costs, the increase of sales prices, the promotion of competition, the protection of interests and the improvement of revenues of farmers. Qingdao is the largest grain sales area in Shandong province, in which the annual grain output is about 3,000,000 tons but the annual grain consumption is about 3,800,000 tons. Therefore, the gap between production and demand of grain is from 800,000 to 1,000,000 tons. However, the expanding rate is 10,000 tons every year. The population of Qingdao will be 12 million in 2020, which will result in a lager gap in grain production and demand.Grain logistics is a new research field of logistics in China, which is in the infant phase now, so the related-research is nearly rare. The purpose of our study is to develop a construction of grain logistics hub in Qingdao, integrating the modern logistics and grain management, from theories to methods and techniques, based on the full investigation of the third granary of Qingdao, and combing the characteristics of grain operation and the deficiencies of grain management in Qingdao.The backgrounds, aims and methods of this study are present in the beginning. The second part focuses on the introduction to the whole theoretical foundation for the grain logistics hub, that is, grain logistics-related concepts and polices. On one hand, the concept, functions and characteristics of logistics are analyzed, on the other hand, the implication and characteristics of grain logistics are identified, both of which are the theory basis of the construction of grain logistics hub in Qingdao. In addition, Furthermore, the market analysis of grain logistics hub in Qingdao is explained, which is combined of three sections. The status quo of grain in Qingdao is introduced firstly. Then the advantages of Qingdao is described. Guidelines, orientation and function are discussed thirdly. Upon the above, the construction of grain logistics hub in Qingdao is elaborated, divided into three segments: site and environment, arts and crafts, organization and personnel. In addition, the environmental and energy saving of grain logistics hub in Qingdao are explored. The investment, financial and venture evaluation are following. The future research of grain logistics hub is discussed in the end.
