Abstract


Knowledge Management has become to be a powerful weapon for enterprise to gather knowledge and to enhance competitiveness. The implementation of Knowledge Management System has become to be an important task for many companies, too. This paper summarizes the company’s needs of the Knowledge Management System and designs a Knowledge Management subsystem based on the existing Redmine project management system. We decide to release the Knowledge Management sub-system as an open source project.In order to make the open source release procedure of the Knowledge Management subsystem better, we have carefully studied and analyzed the open source software development methodology, and use it as the guiding principles of the design and implementation of the Knowledge Management subsystem.Redmine is an open source project management system based on Ruby on Rails. It provides a flexible plugin mechanism for user to expand their own features. The Knowledge Management subsystem uses Redmine’s plugin mechanism to make it seamless integrated into the Redmine system. To achieve this goal, we have studied and analyzed Ruby on Rails framework and Redmine’s plugin mechanism based on Rails Engines.This paper illustrates the design and implementation of two important modules of the Knowledge Management subsystem-the ezFAQ FAQ Management module and the ezFtpSearch Ftp Server Search module. This paper also illustrates the open source release procedure of the two modules. The two modules of the Knowledge Management subsystem have achieved good results after they were put into use in the company. They have also been widely recognized after they were released as open source projects.
