Abstract

For many radar and communication project applications of scanning array antennas, extreme narrow beamwidth is required to improve the spatial resolution. Usually, to achieve this goal, there are two available methods: one way is to increase the element number of the array which has uniform layout. But it will bring higher cost and more complexity with respect to the system; another way is to use sparse antenna array, whose element spacing is relatively larger thanĪ»/2. As one of the sparse arrays, minimum redundancy array may attain much larger array aperture and higher resolution than uniform array with lowest redundancy. It has a great deal application of the radar and smart antenna technology in the field of wireless communication, which receives more and more close attention from people. With the gradual deep study, beamforming technology of minimum redundancy array has become an important research topic. Though minimum redundancy array has narrow beamwidth, its sidelobe levels also increase. To acquire high resolution, the minimum redundancy array usually has larger aperture and much more elements, and it will increase the complexity of the system and the difficulty to the following signal processing. For the problem of high sidelobe level, the research in sidelobe suppressing algorithms are needed. And the fast steady adaptive beamforming algorithms are also needed to be investigated. The research of this paper mainly includes the following aspects: The basic concept of minimum redundancy array and array redundancy are studied. The array beam patterns of minimum redundancy array and uniform array are presented. And a simple analysis about it is given out. Computer simulation results of two algorithms, constrained least spuare algorith and subspace iterative algorithm, verify the validity of the sidelobe supressing. Then based on the theory of adaptivity, diagonal loading technique is analyzed, Neural Network applied to adaptive beamforming is studied, which improved the stability of beamforming. Using a minimum redundancy array in conjunction with an adaptive antenna, the performance of rejecting interferences located in close angular proximity to the look direction, will be superior to antenna based on uniform linear array. And the application of thin adaptive array beamforming in minimum redundancy array is discussed. At last, it confirmed that minimum redundancy array can achieve Direction of Arrival estimation of independent signal sources by higher resolution, and a method based on conjufgate minimum redundancy array is proposed to realize Direction of Arrival estimation between coherent signal sources, which enhances the practicality of the algorithms.
