Abstract

According to the requirement of high-speed signal processing in radar, image processing, communication etc, designers are seeking some new implementing methods of digital signal processing to meet these requirement. In digital signal processing area, DSP processor, ASIC and FPGA are in common use. FPGA has some advantages: high-speed, perfect for parallel and pipelining processing, ability of reconfiguration. Because of these advantages, FPGA is widely used by many signal processing fields. The digital Processing technology of radar signal includes many aspects. Aim at the design and realization of radar signal Processing, some work has been done about the following aspects in the paper.Firstly, a simulation model of Pulse-Doppler radar signal processing system is given, we discuss the theory of basic radar signal processing such as pulse compress, Moving Target Detect (MTD), and Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR). And we also compare different signal processing method for each part.Secondly, taking the LFM signal for example, based on radar echo model and radar operating parameters, target and clutter data were simulated by Matlab Platform in advance and the digital coherent detection, pulse compress, Moving Target Detect(MTD), and Constant False Alarm Rate(CFAR) of coherent Radar signal processing are introduced and simulated. Also the figures of each stage are shown. What’s more, we have a view of the advantage and disadvantage between different methods through these figures. Finally, combined with the simulation results, the scheme of FPGA realization is given. We realize radar signal processing in FPGA by using the Quartus’s IP cores and VHDL language in Quartus II8.0 software integration environment. Each stage is simulated in Modelsim using VHDL language. It verifies the program in Matlab by analyzing the data derived from Quartus II.
