Abstract


Currently, the cable TV network has come into wide use in Chinese family. But scientific researches on Broadband Access technology based on the cable TV network’s out-of-band channel is really rare at home and abroad. High performance Network Over Coax (HiNOC) technology is used to provide users services including IPTV, SDTV/HDTV and Internet access services by setting up Broadband Access network on the cable TV network. And it will accelerate the process of mergence of the three networks and eliminate bandwidth bottlenecks of broad-band network. The MAC layer protocol of HiNOC Broadband Access system is used to resolve the problem of medium access control on shared channel and provides the system higher speed and higher quality. This paper deals with HiNOC system’s networking mode and HiNOC MAC layer protocol. In addition, this paper implements MAC layer protocol of HiNOC Broadband Access system on the platform of Embedded system - IXP425 and tests its functions and performance on the testing environment built upon 100Mbps Ethernet to simulate the real operating environment of HiNOC system. As a result, the test has shown that the MAC layer protocol of HiNOC Broadband Access system has perfect performance and attains an intended goal.
