Abstract

With the development of communications, digital television, satellite positioning, space technology and remote telemetry technology, the better stability, the better spectral purity, and the better frequency resolution of the frequency source is required. Reducing the module of the frequency source becomes smaller, and improving the cost-effective construction to achieve the integration of frequency source module is the current urgent requirements for the communications systems. the use of CMOS technology, design an integrated voltage-controlled oscillator play important roles. There VCO oscillator is sensitive for the frequency range, phase noise and other key technical issues. CMOS integrated circuits are currently used as the main technology in the semiconductor integrated circuits. In this paper,TSMC 0.25μm CMOS technology is used to design a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) based on the DCS1800 protocol. Its RF frequency is 1.5~ 2.1GHz adjustable, and the center frequency is 1.8GHz.In this paper,CMOS LC voltage-controlled oscillator is analyzed from the circuit structure, The MOS varactor technology is used to provide a larger linear tuning range. The relationship of the MOS varactor characteristics and the frequency of the oscillator is studied. the size of MOS varactor is proviede. The effects of current source on the oscillator frequencies are studied too. The requirement for the design of the source is provided. The start-type conditions and the equilibrium conditions of the negative resistance oscillator is analyzed, the equivalent circuit model of the on-chip inductors and variable capacitors are analyzed, its associated operation principle of the circuit is analyzed too. and the methods of improving the performance of the oscillator phase noise is suggested. Based on TSMC 0.25μm CMOS technology library, after the completion of the circuit design, the use of combination of the pre- simulation and post-simulation is used to test circuit performance. Candence software is used to produce the circuit layout and the parameter extraction, the Star Hspice is used as the front-end simulation tools, the Candence Spectre RF is used as the back-end simulation tools, several key points of the layout are described. Simulation results demonstrate that the performance indicators of the VCO satisfy the design objectives completely.
