Abstract


Under the background of growing economic globalization, every country should further integrate into the world economic system, develop foreign direct investment, and actively use both domestic and international markets and two kinds of resources, and expand international exchange and cooperation. Then, they can stand firm in the international market. In recent years, the economy of Jiangsu has leapt forward, accompanied with the growing shortage of resources, the rising cost of raw material and labor and energy. Some industries have surplus capacity, and also they have over supply in the domestic market. Faced with this situation and through foreign investment, it is capable to transfer some industries which have excess capacity of Jiangsu province. Thus, it will accelerate the upgrading and transferring of industries structure, also, improving international competitiveness. Whether the choice of industry and location is appropriate related to the foreign investment activities and also investment efficient is good or bad. At present, although domestic scholars have done a lot of research on the two factors, most of them based on the national level. This paper chooses to analyze the choice of industry and location about foreign direst investment of Jiangsu, giving some theoretical significance to Jiangsu enterprises on foreign direct investment.This paper takes Jiangsu province as the research object, and put the industries and location as the main line, using qualitative and quantitative analysis method and demonstration method and other methods to study industries and location choice on foreign direct investment of Jiangsu province.At first, this paper analyzes thinking of industry and location choice which is contained in both mainstream international investment theory and the theory of foreign investment in developing countries. And then, sums up the frame of reference of the industry and location choice. Afterward, analyzes the actuality of Jiangsu’s FDI, including the total size, industry characteristics, location characteristics and other factors. And pointing out the current problems of foreign direct investment in Jiangsu, such as the level of industrial structure is low, investment position dispersion and so on. Subsequently, this paper does respective empirical study on the choice of industry and location of foreign direct investment in Jiangsu. In the research of industry selection, analyzes its impact factors and Jiangsu industry’s international competitiveness at present and use marginal industry indicators to determine the current marginal industry in Jiangsu. In the study of location choice, measures the impact factors that affects the location choice. Based on the above analysis, gives some analysis and proposes on the combination of industry and location on FDI of Jiansu province.In the basic ideas on industries and location choice of FDI in Jiangsu, dividing the FDI industry into five kinds: resource-seeking industry, marketing pioneering industry, technology-oriented industry, industry-pull industry, and contractual service industry. Among the five industries, further analyses what are the specific industries, and what is its suitable investment location, and the features and advantages of location. Finally, gives some strategy to further develop the overall foreign direct investment of Jiangsu.
