Abstract


The outbreak of the global economic crisis in 2008 impacts so deeper and broader that there’s no country can deal with it independently, which makes East Asian countries realized the urgency of monetary cooperation,so this question is concernedThrough research on regional monetary cooperation theory from home and broad, we find that the most influential theory of this course is Optimum Currency Areas Theory (OCA Theory).It serving as the theoretical basis and math tools for researching on monetary cooperation, OCA theory can be used to study the feasibility of East-Asian Monetary Cooperation and evaluate if the synthesis situation of specific areas is meet the OCA criteria.Through the comparison and reference of various monetary cooperation models, we explore that the East Asian should take Multiple Currency Union. Mainly take into account differences of economics, culture as well as the "non-institutionalized, non-regularization" of monetary cooperation in East Asia which is not suitable for adopting the single currency union model as EU. America is not the Asian country, the RMB and Yuan are the most competitive currency in East Asia, but because of economic, political and other factors, they can not be the dominant currency independently .So East Asia can not adopt the Currency Union like America. Besides, tradition and the process of economic cooperation in East Asian are all contribute to the Multiple Currency Union.The East Asia was divided into five subgroups under Multiple Currency Union model: China, Japan, and Korea Currency Areas, the Chinese Currency Areas, the ASEAN Currency Area, the ASEAN & Japan, and ASEAN & China. By combing qualitative analysis with quantitative analysis and comparative analysis, use the OCA index to reach these subgroups respectively, and linear regression analysis is carried out to explore these combinations are whether suitable for regional monetary cooperation or not, then which combination is more appropriate. Combine with status of economics cooperation between these countries, it should promote the ASEAN & China’s sub-regional development first, then develop to a single currency gradually.
