Abstract


With the new rural reconstruction advancement, there are more and more buildings in towns and villages of China.There is growing concerns in living condition of people. In our country, especially in the South area, outdoor temperatures are very high and lasting a long term, lead to unsatisfactory residential indoor environment. More and more families began to use air-conditioning products to improve the indoor thermal environment, leading to increase the household electricity costs. There is lots of heat gain from external windows in rural houses.External windows shading is a very effective method to reduce the cooling load, It is very important to improve the residential thermal comfort and reduce energy consumption. In the past, the research of external window shading in residential buildings mainly were focused on urban buildings and little attention was paid to the rural houses. It is extremely urgent to research the external window shading in rural houses of China.In this paper, rural house in south China were divided into two categories: category A and category B. Category A(2~3 floors) is common in rural areas and category B(4~6 floors) is common in towns in south China. The research object of this paper is overhang shading, a form of the external window shading system.An experiment system was built to test the effects of the overhang shading in a typical rural houses(category A) and related data was got form the experiment. From the analysis of the data, a conclusion was got that the overhang shading have a certain degree effect of cooling in category A rural houses, some causes were analysized. Then a category B rural house model was built in Designbuilder software in computer, we got a result that the effect of the overhang shading was satisfactory.Two kinds of house building models with overhang shading, including conditioning and non conditioning residential building,were analysized and related theory models were applied, Then obtained theshading periods and design parameters of overhang shading optimal sizes.The two kinds of residential building models were built in Ecotect software to analysize overhang shading’s influence on natural lighting in rural houses located in typical cities of three different lighting climate areas in south China.In this paper, the design methods of overhang shading for exteral window in rural houses were put forward and the design parameters of overhang shading optimal sizes were obtained for cities in south China.For the situation that there is no specific standard to applied to guide the construction of external window overhang shading, the research results in this paper can be applied to instruct the practice of the overhang shading for external window in the residential building in rural area of China.
