Abstract


As the development of the technology for mobile device and network, plus the demand of the related information for the location, Mobile Location-Based Services has tremendous potential for development. Mobile Location-Based Services is an integration of hi-tech industry such as space positioning technology, geographic information system technology, distributed computing technology, embedded system technology and mobile communication technology.Mobile Location-Based Services is one kind of real time application that serves the multi-user, thus has the characteristic of mobility and location dependency. The development of Mobile Location-Based Services is challenged by the variety of mobile terminals, the limitation of their computing capability, the lack of wireless bandwidth and the standardization of map data. The thesis introduces the concept, background and the researching status of Mobile Location-Based Services; analyzes its challenges and technical difficulties; proposes the architecture of Mobile Location-Based Services. Then a Mobile Location-Based Services solution is given in combination of technologies of GPS positioning, GPRS wireless transmission, moving object management, map service, server cluster and data caching.As to the moving objects management, This thesis presents a novel index structure based on the improved Quadtree and Hash table, namely the QH-index which can index the past, present and future positions of moving objects. Because Mobile Location-Based Services is one kind of real time application that serves the multi-user, server cluster is used to achieve the system’s high availability and scalability. For the variety of mobile terminals, the limitation of their computing capability, the system uses the ideology of optional service. For the lack of wireless bandwidth, the mobile map service has taken the strategy of data cache.The Mobile Location-Based Services System proposed in the thesis is a prototype with basic functionalities. Yet it proves the feasibility of crucial technologies related, as well as exposes the new challenges of Mobile Location-Based Services.
