Abstract

Personal health care has been a global concern. This paper designs an overall sys-tem architecture for personal remote monitoring, including the wireless acquiring, real-timeprocessing, and Internet-transporting of personal medical information. And two typical ap-plications of daily health care are defined in the paper as: the continuous monitoring, and theperiodic monitoring. To meet the needs of the different applications, several technologies arechosen to build different remote wireless monitoring systems under the same architecture. We use the ARM9-based development board to set up our embedded platform, onwhich we design a specificity WinCE operation system to run. Also, we develop twowireless sensor networks to obtain the medical information. One point-to-point network isformed by nRF24L01 with high data rate, and the other is a star-network based on CC2430chip and the Z-Stack software. As follow, we are able to access the Internet by two meth-ods in the platform, including the Wi-Fi built by vt6656 module and the GPRS built by theSIM300 module. At last, central monitoring software is developed respectively to performthe application either on the ARM/WinCE or the PC/WindowsXP platform. The ECG monitoring experiment is set to test the entire system. The ECG signalsare sampled with 500Sps by two kinds of wireless sensor networks and collected into thedata processing center, following with the recognition of R-wave and the calculation of PRinterval, heart rate and so on. The results and the waves are displaying on the screen ofthe data processing center. Also, it is verified that the data are able to upload on internetthrough GPRS or WLAN. Finally, the performance, power and stability of the personalremote monitoring system are tested. The analysis result shows the power-efficiency, highperformance, good expendability and scalability of the system.
