Develop the Sixth Grade Students’ Computing Power of Fraction and How It Affects the Students’ Abilty of Solving Fraction Applied Problems

Abstract


This paper bases on the training of fraction computing power. It focuses on three problems such as how to train the students’fraction computing power, how much the training affects the students’fraction computing power and how the training improves the strdents’ ability of solving fraction applied problems. From the research the author obtains the following results:a. the author surveys the in-service middle school mathematics teachers to collect the methods of improving the students’fraction computing power. Meanwhile the author compiles a teaching plan and a series of exercises for developing the students’fraction computing power. After the training, the plan and the exercises are further mended.b. After the training, the strdents’fraction computing power is improved obviously. And the ability of using simple way for the calculations is improved most.c. The first 75% students’fraction computing power is improved more abviously and the last 25% students’ is less.d. The students’fraction computing power is improved obviously, however their ability of solving fraction applied problems is improved unconspicuously. Trainning the students’ fraction computing power is conducive to solving the applied problems which ask for less thinking such as the problems about fraction multiplication. But for the problems which ask for mor thinking, this training is useless.e. The first 33% students’ability of solving fraction applied problems develops most, the mid 42%s’develops a little, and the last 25%s’develops little. The better the students’fraction computing power, the more development of his ability of solving fraction applied problems he can get.Some suggestions are given at the end of this paper.
