Abstract


Since ancient times, sand table in the military and the industrial and agricultural production in the applications are very extensive. Most of the traditional sand table are physical, it can intutively reflect the field landscape. Because of its large area and discommodiousness to bring and dull expression, it’s difficult to adapt to the current requirements of the field. With the development of the computer technology, network technology and computer graphics, the simulation system of electronic sand table has been more widely used in industries. The sand table is also frequently used in the Grass-roots army in peacetime tactical training, the traditional method of composting sand table is in accordance with contour map, but the new sand table must be re-composting in the next exercise. In view of this, this paper maps will be extracted through contour lines, vectorization, and ultimately generate digital elevation model (Digital Elevation Model, referred to as DEM) by interpolation, and then, the realistic three-dimensional terrain is produced with the adoption of Visual Studio2008 as the development platform, VC++ as the development language and VTK(Visualization Toolkit) as a tool, it lay the foundation for the production of electronic sand table in the future.The core of generation three-dimensional terrain is the acquisition of DEM data. Firstly, this article discussed and analyzed the basic knowledge and related theories to obtain DEM data based on the paper contour, the main links are:First, extracting the contour line layer from colored images based on HSI color space; second, completing contour vectorization based on a new method; third, the generation of DEM data based on Kriging interpolation. Then, giving an example of the proportion of 1:10 million contour map, the article analyzed a number of practical situations encountered in obtainning DEM data, including the following aspects: first, how to determine the threshold in contour extraction; second, the secection of radius in area of bigger curvature when contour vectorization. Then, analyzed the reason of using VTK as a tool of visualization of three-dimensional terrain, and presented the mechanisms and characteristics of VTK, and using an instance of three-dimensional map to prove the validity of this method. Finally, based on the DEM data, analyzed the slope, the aspect, and a point of the visual field, which military training is very useful.This study is starting with the grass-roots army in peacetime tactical training, the resulting of the three-dimensional topography and the correlation analysis of the application of the the military training have some practical significance in primary forces of information technology and improving the combat effectiveness.
