Abstract


The city’s prosperity and economic growth is supported and promoted by key industries.In the era of knowledge economy, development of industries can no longer rely solely on traditional monetary capital, land and other production factors, the important role of intellectual capital become more prominent. In macroeconomic perspective, Intellectual Capital (IC) is intangible resource owned by society; meet the social development needs of macro strategy to create value and competitive advantage. IC regards knowledge as a carrier and the essence of IC is the human capital of society to allocate resources into the value. Thus, IC is strategic resource of the city’s leading industries to provide technical, knowledge support. IC can be effectively combined with physical capital to work together to create social and economic value, maintain competitive advantage and play a fundamental and critical role in "Development of Industry".Throughout the academic research of the relationship between IC and value creation, most investigators biased in favor of market-based perspective of investors, study listed companies, analyze the industry in which the use of intellectual capital efficiency, is profitability strong, Also, there are a small part of the study compared countries or regions competitiveness of intellectual capital. The studies to discuss the industry IC and economic growth relationship on macroeconomic level are rare. This paper studies the development of intellectual capital of key industries in Shanghai.On the basis of Industry IC, this paper assesses the development of key industries IC and its economic contribution to provide a theoretical basis for planning proposals.Firstly, this paper introduced theoretical review of IC content, components and evaluation models. Then, the paper defined the meaning of industry IC, composition, characteristics and established a model of the industry’s assessment of intellectual capital, followed by quantitative analysis of empirical research. In conclusion, the understanding of the development of Shanghai five key industries IC are as follows:(1) The scale of industrial economic output, labor and physical capital were the largest. The growth of industrial economy mainly relied on the value of fixed assets. (2) Wholesale and retail trade industry absorbed the largest workforce in the tertiary sector but little investment in fixed assets. The scale of per capita economic output was small. The capacity to add value was weak but improved fast. (3)Transport, storage and postal industry’s economic output and human capital, physical capital investment achieved a relatively balanced state, but the IC capacity to add value was not strong. (4) Real estate possessed the largest share of fixed assets in the third sector. The size of the workforce grew fastest and the IC capacity to add value is strongest but improve slowest.(5) The scale of the financial sector workforce, and fixed assets was small but grew fast. The investment of IC is lot but value was create quite slowly and the profit contribution of the industry’s IC was lowest in the five key industries.Finally, the author put forward the development proposals of intellectual capital in Shanghai key industries according to the development of intellectual capital’s contribution to economic growth. This study uses theoretical and empirical analysis combined with qualitative research and quantitative research methods in support of research.The innovation of the article are as follows:(1)In this paper, the theory has a certain degree of innovation:grasping industry IC content, composition, characteristics, and the interaction mechanism of industry IC components. This theory is the addition to the few existing study of macro-economic intellectual capital.(2)In this paper, the content is an innovation. Based on statistical data, the study explore the current development of intellectual capital and its impact on economic growth to provide a realistic frame of reference for Shanghai key industries to develop IC and to enhance IC path selection.
