Abstract


Silence as a major non-verbal communicative acts in people's daily communication everywhere. It is an important branch of linguistics . Silence reflects the particular culture and value systems in which the discourse discourse community awareness . However, the current study the phenomenon of silence is very limited ; College English classroom learners study the phenomenon of silence is even more rare. Students in foreign language classes on the silence is widespread, and the learners ' learning achievements have greater impact. For most university teachers, students' classroom participation has become a measure of an important aspect of teaching effectiveness , because the student 's classroom participation affected the classroom dynamics and student learning achievement. Unfortunately, the language learners in the classroom silence researchers and educators did not cause more attention . Classroom silence hinders a more comprehensive university Learners' Acquisition of English language proficiency . This paper will college English classroom students to explore the phenomenon of silence . This study analyzed questionnaires , interviews aimed at identifying individual students approach the phenomenon of college English classroom silence causes , and to discuss how to break the silence , optimize classroom teaching to provide a solid foundation. The findings suggest that college English learners to maintain classroom silence is the result of many reasons : social and cultural impact of the learner's own study habits, the impact of English teachers , college English teaching objectively existing conditions, etc. . By analyzing the causes of silence in the classroom , on the one hand this is the correct interpretation of college English teachers in the classroom silence student provides a reference to the teaching activities to break the silence of students , improve teaching efficiency ; hand to help English learners psychologically and methods to overcome classroom silence, improve classroom learning efficiency. By improving the professional skills of English teachers to improve teaching methods, active classroom atmosphere, silence students' classroom participation will significantly increase . Learners through the use of integrative motivation to change English learning strategies, English speaking ability can be greatly improved. In the longer term , by improving the existing English language teaching situation , but also to a certain extent, an increase in foreign language learners in the classroom .
