Abstract


Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display (TFT-LCD) is the display technology of low power consumption, high brightness, long life, low-E, and also has much advantage in volume and weight. So it is being more and more widely used in embedded area include mobile phone, consumer electronics and industrial control. Now most systems need to update their traditional display to true-color LCD, it leads to new problem of backward compatibility. This paper introduces a scheme which uses programmable logic devices as LCD controller chip to smooth upgrade display module.The performace of LCD controller, which serves as the bridge between processor and diplay, directly influence the system performance and display effect. Here we use CPLD as LCD timing controller and TMS320F2812 as processor, and upgrade the LCD display.This design mainly implements two part of work below:1) Logic design based on CPLD. After detailed analysis and understand the theory of LCD driver, we choose ispMACH4000 series CPLD from Lattice Co., Ltd as design platform and Verilog HDL as design language to implement LCD controller circuit. After the design flow of simulation, synthesis, static timing analysis and verification, we begin the boad-level test and verification. LCD controller mainly consists of three modules of host interface, display ram master and LCD timing generator. By analysising and optimizing the design, this paper achieved 640×480 resolutions and 62.5 frames per second.2) GUI software design base on DSP. The processor platform is TMS320F2812 Digital Signals Processor from TI Co., Ltd. The zone6 area of DSP’s external ram interface expands the LCD controller and zone0 area expands the Nand Flash. GUI software driver include LCD driver and Nand Flash driver. The former drives the LCD controller and the latter drives the Nand Flash which has parameters and initial data storage in it.
