Abstract


Contemporary Chinese Dictionary is one of Chinese dictionaries, used widely in China at present. Although abundant research fruits in related field have emerged continuously, parts of speech researches are extensive, overall and specific research related to attributive words is ignored. As the subsidiary category of adjectives, attributive words’position and effect should be paid attention to because of its important distinguishable and classifiable effect.This thesis researches the explanations and word-collection of attributive words, using some kinds of main research methods such as statistical method, analytic method and comparative method.This thesis consists of three parts:Part One (ChapterⅠ) is preface. It reviews the previous researches on attributive words in Contemporary Chinese Dictionary, presents the research method and the value of this thesis.Part Two (ChapterⅡ, ChapterⅢ) is the main body.ChapterⅡcompares the quantity and scope on attributive words in five editions based on the definition and grammatical features, analyzes the elements of the differences and studies the surplus words and omitted words.ChapterⅢresearches the explanations on attributive words in Contemporary Chinese Dictionary, deplicts seperatedly six kinds of meaning description modes including the definition、“of……”、“describe……”、“(object)+nature and state depliction”、“analogy……”and comprehensive mode, inspects the accuracy and unity of the explanations in every group on the basis of the correspondence on attributive words in groups. At last, it gives some pieces of advice on the explanations of attributive words.Part Three is conclusion. It summarizes the whole thesis, points out the limitations and looks forward to the future research.The research characters of this thesis are as follows:1. It compares closely the fifth edition with the previous four editions on the explanation and word-collection of attributive words, analyzes the differences on the explanations and word -collection.2. It compares the word-collection field in five editions in order to show the epoch development.3. It adds 565 attributive words to Beijing University corpus, sums up the quantity of every attributive word which meets the grammar requirements and definition in the former 200 items, counts the ratio appearance and judges the accuracy in order to add or delete the attributive words.The conclusions of this thesis are as follows:1. The quantity of attributive words increases edition by edition in terms of quantity. 2. There are more than fifty percent single-entries in the whole amount in terms of entry.3. Economy words and daily life words are greater parts in terms of collection scope.4.“Of……”is the most important mode in every edition in terms of meaning description modes.5. There are 20 attributive words which should be deleted in the fifth edition because they are unqualified the definition, grammatical features and word-collection principle. There are also 42 words which should be regarded as attributive words in the future.
