Abstract


With China’s social and economic development and ongoing modernization, the issue of migrant workers has gradually aroused concern in Chinese society and become a much-discussed topic. Female migrant workers are a special group in the migrant workers, who are faced with greater difficulties when they come to work in the city. How to improve their working conditions and quality of life has become a question that demands urgent answer.The female migrant workers in the city of Xiangtan are the focus of this study. The theoretical basis for the analysis consists of public administration, sociology, law, and economics. This study indicates that the main problems facing the female migrant workers include violation to their workplace rights, the lack of protection of their legal rights and interests, their vulnerable social status and low competitiveness, and their poor quality of life and potential marriage or family crises. The main reasons for these problems include gender discrimination, the weakening of governmental regulation, the inherent shortcomings of related systems, the irresponsibility of employers, and disadvantages of the female migrant workers themselves.Guaranteeing female migrant workers the rights to life and development as individuals is an inherent aspect in protecting their equal rights, promoting their well-rounded development, and finally achieving socialism’s fairness and justice. It is the requirement of the sustainable and healthy development of socialist modernization, and a long-term systematic social project as well, which must be undertaken under the government’s coordination. As a result, it is necessary to strengthen government regulation and control, attach importance to female migrant workers’living conditions, increase government spending to boost the employment of female migrant workers, improve the protection measures to guarantee their legal rights and interests, optimize public services to enhance their quality of life.
