Abstract

Objective: To observe effect of budesonide Aerosol therapy on the serum level of ICAM-1 and E-selection of AECOPD patients. Method: Sixty Acute phase, moderate-severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) patients and thirty healthy cases were selected as participants. Sixty AECOPD patients were evenly assigned to group A and group B, based on the age, gender, course of disease, phase of COPD, and score of CPIS. Thirty healthy cases were assigned to group C. Besides of routine treatment of COPD, group A inhaled 4 ml budesonide, three time per day, stopped treating until slationary phase. Group B received routine treatment of COPD only, stopped treating until slationary phase. Group C was the healthy control group. Levels of ICAM-1 (ng/ml) and E-selection (ng/ml) were tested among patients in acute phase before treatment (steady phase) and after treatment (slationary phase) of group A and group B and participants in group C, using the enzyme linked immunoad sorbent assay (ELASA). Result: Both in group A and B, serum levels of ICAM-1 among patients in acute phase before treatment were higher than those of patients in steady phase after treatment significantly (P<0.01) , while serum levels of ICAM-1 among patients in steady phase after treatment were higher than those of participants in group C significantly (P<0.01). Comparisons of group A and group B, there was no significant difference of the serum level of ICAM-1 both in acute phase. on the serum levels of ICAM-1 of patients in steady phase between group A and group B, group A was lower than group B. There were no significantly difference (P>0.05) about serum levels of E-selection and ICAM-1 between patients of group Aand B with acute phase. Conclusion: Therefore, ICAM-1 and E-selection might be involved in the process of airway inflammatory of AECOPD patients. budesonide could obviously inhibit expression of ICAM-1 and E-selection and relive airway inflammatory of COPD patients.
