Abstract


As one of the Five Sacred Mountains,the mid-sacred mountain, Mount Songshan is the "center of the world" in Chinese ancient saying. It is the center of human activities. Ancient people glorified the reverential Nature as they glorified the "center of the world". This kind of thinking made people called it a holy mountain of civilization. Political, religious, technological and educational movements were all surrounded Mount Songshan, which made it became the most concentrated area with ancient architectures in China. Mount Songshan contained all type of monuments. There were huge amount of valuable historic spots which retained memories of each historic period.This paper objectively discusses the ancient building complex in Mount Songshan from macro-perspective. It explains how Mount Songshan retains history that different periods have various structures. Moreover, the paper includes a brief research on the whole ancient building complex and deeply explains the variety causes of the formation of it.Historical monuments in Mount Songshan basically can put into four categories: protocolary, religion, technology and education. They are typically among the best of those four groups. Monuments in Mount Songshan had deeply influence development and conversion of building style in mainland China. They have special and irreplaceable status in the Chinese history. Most constructions in the Mount Songshan ancient building complex are ranked among the top of architectonic. Those building hold many "the best" in the history of religion, civilization and art.Ancient building complex in Mount Songshan presents the general culture development and outstanding achievement of our country, and fully reflects the distinguishing and concentrically features of different cultures. Writer thinks the main reason for this phenomenon is based on the social status of the idea that Mount Songshan was "center of the world". The concept of "center of the world" affects all aspects of daily life, and has unbeatable influence on every Chinese people. Mount Songshan as the representation and medium of "center of the world". It witnessed the movements of all civilization and ideology, and retain as a treasurable history record. The ancient building complex in Mount Song is an irreplaceable cultural legacy, and also the wealth to continue the evolution of our civilization.
