Abstract

Pharmaceutical and personnel products (PPCPs) are newly identified micro-pollutants in the recent decade, which concerned by the scholars and the public for its environmental risk, although lack of conclusive evidence that it would be harmful to human health till now. In this thesis, the degradation of sulfonamide antibiotic Sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and metabolite of blood lipid regulator Clofibric Acid (CA) in aqueous solution were carried out by UV/H2O2, O3 and O3/H2O2 processes respectively. The effects of initial SMX and CA concentration, initial solution pH, various anions, the presence of humic acid, free radical scavenger on the degradation of SMX and CA were investigated. The results indicated that, the degradation of SMX and CA by UV/H2O2, O3 and O3/H2O2 processes were followed the pseudo first order reaction kinetics. The degradation efficiency and reaction rate decreased with the increasing of initial concentration. The removal efficiency of SMX and CA were improved with the increase of H2O2 dosage by UV/H2O2 process, while weak acid conditions were favorable for both degradation. The degradation rates increased with the increasing of initial pH value by O3 process for both SMX and CA. The removal rate and reaction rate constant of SMX decreased with the increasing of humic acid in UV/H2O2 and O3 process, but to CA, the inhibitive effect was observed at high concentration of humic acid while the degradation was promoted at low concentration. The removal rate and reaction rate constant of SMX decreased with the increasing of humic acid in UV/H2O2 and O3 process, but to CA, the inhibitive effect was observed at high concentration of humic acid while the degradation was promoted at low concentration. Only slightly inhibitive effects on SMX degradation by adding tert-butanol in UV/H2O2 and O3 processes were found, and the inhibitive effects were much more apparent on CA degradation. The degradation efficiency of O3/H2O2 process was better than O3 processes individually.
