With the development of economy, more and more people moved to downtown, inadequate infrastructure is more and more obvious. Therefore, the building is more and more upwards, meanwhile, the use of underground space scale also expands unceasingly. Arising from the excavation engineering, the excavation become bigger, and the deeper the direction.Because of the soil layer deposition, and the stress redistribution caused by construction process, soil strength is anisotropic. The anisotropy of soil will produce great impact on the earth pressure and deformation of excavation. This paper mainly did the research considering the anisotropy of soil:Firstly, the earth pressure on the retaining wall was studied. The failure criterion of no homogeneous nonlinear anisotropic rocks was introduced, and was transformed into planar form. The plane strain assumption was introduced, and the stress distribution of soil was solved using finite difference method basing on the slip line method. Assuming the vertical retaining wall and the level filling soil, the active and passive earth pressures were solved in different translational solving boundary conditions. The influences of the anisotropy of soil, the internal cohesion and the acerage weight on the earth pressure were discussed. The results were also compared with the Rankin’s earth pressure.Secondly, the stability against upheaval of excavation was studied. Considering the study on failure criterion of no homogeneous nonlinear anisotropic rocks recommended by Ruan Huaining, an analytical method of stability against upheaval of excavation in anisotropic clays was given. Basic on the slip line method, this paper was founded according to Prandtl soil slip failure modes, and considering the primary anisotropy of clays. In order to obtain the program for computing, the finite-difference method is introduced while combining with the boundary conditions. The influences of the anisotropy of soil, the internal frictional angle and the retaining wall insertion ratio on the numerical results are discussed. The results were also compared with results calculated through Terzaghi’s method and circular sliding method.
