With the increasing demands for esthetic restorations, the popularity of porcelain technology and the increase in the proportion of adult orthodontics, how to directly bonded the orthodontic brackets on the Porcelain Surfaces become a new topic.Object:This sutdy evaluated the effect towards cohesional strength of metal brackets and porcelain using four different treatments to the surface of porcelain, then analyze which treatment and adhesion agent can achieve effective strength. This treatment has the smallest influence to the surface of porcelain after removing the adhesion agent.Methods:80 porcelain veneer were divided into four groups, using different treatments as follows:(1) 9.6% Hydrofluoric acid etching 2-3 minutes; (2) 9.6% Hydrofluoric acid etching 2-3 minutes combining with silane coupling agent; (3) 37% phosphoric acid etching 1 minutes combining with silane coupling agent; (4) using silane coupling agent only. Then every group was divided into two groups, using light-cure and jingjin enamel adhesive respectively. All the subjects were water bathed at 37℃for 1 weeks, then sustained 500 thermal circulation (5℃-55℃). Measuring each subject’s shear strength, calculating agents remaining index. All data were analyzed by SPSS 17.0 software package. Results:The average anti-shear strength of the four different porcelain surface treatment are as follows:Using 37% phosphoric acid or silane coupling agent only group cannot achieve clinical request for cohesional strength.9.6% hydrofluoric acid etching group showed increasing cohesional strength between porcelain and resin. The cohesional effection of hydrofluoric acid etching or phosphoric acid etching combining with silane coupling agent group surpass the group of using silane coupling agent only, both using light-cure and jingjin enamel adhesive can achieve clinical request for cohesional strength in these groups. Water bathing and thermal circulation can depress cohesional strength. Porcelain’s luster was disappeared after hydrofluoric acid etching treatment, it create the chance for Porcelain’s breakage to some extent. Conclusion:We recommend 37% phosphoric acid combining with silane coupling agent to etch the surface if there is a need to bond brackets on porcelain crown. We consider the combination can provide enough cohesional strength for clinical use. Also, the price is lower which can save medical expenditure.
